Leonard- Thanks for contacting Antique and Collectable Firearms and Militaria Headquarters. Sorry, we cannot help with that one. Dolf Goldsmith`s series of books on the BMGs probably has the info, but I do not have a copy. John Spangler

16559  - Marlin 22
1/22/2022
Rebekah Hopewell VA USA

Maker: The Marlin Firearms Co, Model: Glenfield 15, Caliber: .22, Barrel Length: Unknown, Finish: Long Gun - Other, SN: 20739782

Markings:
squirrel engraving on stock

Question:
Im researching my one-shot Glenfield Model 15 .22 S-L-LR made by The Marlin Firearms Co. in North Haven CT circa 1980 serial number 20739782. I found a training gun at auction online that looks exactly like this gun but without the squirrel engraving on the stock. Can yall tell me about this gun

Answer:
Rebekah- Marlin makes good quality guns, but few have much collector value, so they are mainly valued as shooters.

Glenfield was the name they used on their least expensive guns, often sold by discount stores or chain stores (Sears, Montgmoery Ward, K-Mart, etc).

Most .22 rifles look a lot like each other, with very subtle differences that advanced collectors will pick up, but most people will not notice. So, I don`t think you can draw any comparisons between the one you saw and your gun.

I do not follow prices on Marlins, but suspect that you could find a Model 15 at a gun show selling for around $100 or so. Hope that helps. John Spangler

16558  - Germania Waffenwerke Shotgun
1/15/2022
Heath Ashburn ga

Maker: Germania Waffenwerke Ag Zella-mehlis, Model: ?, Caliber: 8x57 Js, Barrel Length: ?, Finish: Long Gun - Blue, SN: 3703

Markings:
Gun is highly engraved with a spoon handle bolt handle and a double set trigger drilled and tapped for scope mount. Has thin square stock with small square tab on the underneath of barrel just before sight. Magazine floor plate opens with an external lever. Has perfect hole through fore grip Im assuming for a sling but no hardware is there. Germania Waffenwerk ag zella-mehlis is stamped on top of barrel. With caliber stamped on left side

Question:
Can you give me any additional information as to the manufacturer and possibly a year of production I know and cannot find anything about this particular gun. Have seen several pistols and a sxs but no spoon handle sporting rifles.

Answer:
Heath- Sounds like a really nice gun, but we are dreadfully ignorant about that type of gun. We just know enough to recognize it as a high quality item, worthy of a more informed analysis.

Recommend you ask over on the German Gun Collectors Association site at

Hope that helps. John Spangler

16557  - Remington 11
1/8/2022
James Blue Springs

Maker: Remington, Model: Model 11, Caliber: 20, Barrel Length: ?, Finish: Shotgun (Non-Military) - Blue, SN: 1029166

Markings:
20 ga cyl dy on left side of barrel

Question:
I have a model 11 that belonged to my grandfather and I have no children so Im passing it down to my cousins son that hunts. I would like to get the history to go along with it but Im not having any luck. The lh on the receiver has the serial number stamped 1029166. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Answer:
James- The Remington Model 11 is the John M. Browning designed semi-auto shotgun first made by FN in Belgium, but also licensed to Remington, and later to Savage as well. It was made only in 12 GA from the start of production in 1905 under the name ``Browning Autoloading Gun`` renamed the Model 11 in 1911. In 1930 Remington added a 20 GA model, with serial numbers starting at 1,000,000 and the following year they added 16 GA, with numbers starting at 1,500,000.

Remember, this was during the depression, so sales were slower than in good economic times. My guess is that they would have reached 1029166 within about 5 years, so your gun was probably made circa 1932-25.

These are fine old guns, but not recommended for use with steel shot. Hope that helps, John Spangler

16556  - 870 Wingmaster
1/4/2022
William Las Vegas NV

Maker: Remington, Model: 870 Wingmaster, Caliber: 12 Ga, Barrel Length: 30, Finish: Long Gun - Blue, SN: W012720V

Markings:
left side of barrel has two letters DD with no numbers.

Question:
This firearm was pasted down by generations and I was told it was hardly used. Other than a few very small surface rust spots on the barrel and a few small scratches on the stock and fore-end it is in excellent condition. Very well taken care of. I would like to find out when this firearm was manufactured yearmonth and if there would be any value in selling it or trading it in

Answer:
William- The Model 870 is a fine gun, and over 11 million have been made since introduction in 1950.

The DD on the barrel indicaes it was made in September, and the year choices are 1957, 1983 or 2009, probably 1957.

Since they are so common, prices tend to be modest, and you can check GunBroker.com to see what people are asking, and more importantly how much people are actually bidding. I saw some priced in the $250-400 range, but there are others with special features going for more.

You could sell it or trade it in, but frankly, they are good guns which will last for thousands of rounds, so no point spending money to replace it with something which would not be much better. Hope that helps. John Spangler
