16608  - Chinese SKS Date

Question:
I just recently bought what looks to be an old Chinese SKS it has Chinese writing on it and a manufacturer`s triangle symbol on it that represents 6016 bur I can`t find anything that can put a date to this gun. Could you guys help me with that?

 Answer:
It will be impossible without the full serial number. All I can say without it is it was made after 1961, which is when the Chinese started to apply the three characters before the serial number. Josh

Question:
I have the M1A NM 308 serial number 379272. Researching on your page for military rifles I did not find a M1A option, so I clicked M1 Garand and entered the serial number 379272. Result is rifle was made in 1941. Would the M1Garand and M1A have same serial number? What is the date of manufacture for an M1A serial number 379272?

 Answer:
Sorry, we cannot help with that one. We have no info on dates for commercially made M1A rifles. Their serial number lists are totally different than any U.S. military contract numbers.

You might be able to get a date by calling Springfield Armory and asking them. (The commercial company in Geneseo, IL, not the former government armory in Massachusetts.) John Spangler

Question:
We found an older Colt 25 vest pocket with serial number 32925 but the remainder of wording on the pistol is illegible due to age. We are trying to figure out exact age and value, but also looking for a clip as it didn`?t have one with it. I can send you photos as well. My online search for the serial came up empty.

 Answer:
I think you have the M1908 HAMMERLESS (.25 AUTOMATIC) and the date for serial number 32925 would be 1910. Hope that helps, John Spangler

Just was interested in finding out more info on the value of my speed six. Many had the 2in barrel compared to the security. But my speed six is a 4 in barrel blue coating still in excellent condition

Is it possible to be provided the year for a Smith and Wesson 34 - revolver 22LR Serial: M5065

References indicate that it was manufactured between 1969 and 1971, hope that this helps. John

Dear Oldguns.net. I`m a retired LAPD Sgt. I used this gun as an onduty backup and offduty for protection. I can remember when I bought it but it was sometime after 1967 when I joined LAPD. Can you please tell when it was manufatured and it`s approximate value.

 Answer:
Just the facts. In 1969, S&W started using the J prefix for serial numbers on the Model 37 starting with J1, and ended in 1970 at J99999. So, your revolver was probably made in 1970. In 1971 they moved the J into the middle of the number. Model 37 Airweights are selling on Gunbroker.com for around $400 and up retail, depending on condition or subtle collector variations. I have a Model 03-A3 serial 4197239 which I`m trying to fix and do other adjustment. I`m needing some help and information

We are not gunsmiths so we can not give advise on repairs and adjustments. You might want to try checking on You Tube, there is allot of good gunsmithing information there. Let me know if you need parts, we can probably help with those.
