It`s almost Christmas, 2023 is fast approaching, and for many of us, it couldn`t get here soon enough! John and Marc hope you are spending time with family and friends, laughing, enjoying each other`s company, eating great food and staying helathy. 2022 was challanging year and many of us will be glad to see it go.

Please remember our troops who are still overseas. Let`s not forget their sacrifice as they`re away from their families. If you know someone who is serving, please give them a big thank you and a Merry Christmas.

We would like to thank all of our visitors, customers, old friends and new friends that we have made this year for helping us have a great 2022. We appreciate your support, business, the questions that you send us and your friendship. We would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. Remember, though, if Santa forgot to bring that special gift, we just might have it! Check all of our catalog pages to see if there is something that maybe you should have asked for... but forgot to. Then let us know and we can do the job when you`re in town, or something festive like that.

May the new year bless you with health, wealth, and happiness,

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

16630  - Remington Model 11 DOM
12/17/2022
Brett Hindman KY

Maker: Remington, Model: Model 11, Caliber: 12, Barrel Length: ?, Finish: Shotgun (Military) - Blue, SN: 228702

Markings:
Gun has REP engraved on right side of barrel just after frame an has MOD on left side same spot. Gun also has what I`ve come to know as the suicide safety in front of trigger. Has model 11 on top of barrel with markings regarding to union metallic co. ILion N.Y. An brownings patent. Also the unit has UMC stamped a couple places.

Question:
I need help finding out the correct date for this gun. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:
Brett- Your Remington Model 11 was made in November 1920. This is before they started using the date codes on the right side of the barrel. But, the handwritten factory notebook with serial number dates circa 1910-1940s has (mostly) survived and the dates for the Model 11 seem to be complete.

The Remington Society of America site has these available for public access at:

https://www.remingtonsociety.org/factory-record-book-serials/

Hope that helps. John Spangler

16616  - Winchester Model 57 DOM

I have none

Question:
I would like to know when the rifle was produced

Answer:
Dan, an article at Gun Wiki (https://guns.fandom.com/wiki/Winchester_Model_57) indicates that the Model 57 was introduced in January 1927, with stocks arriving at the Winchester warehouse in August 1926. It was designed as a small, compact and well-built target rifle, equipped with a heavier stock and a sight combination suitable for target shooting. Offered with its companion weapon, the Model 56,[2] the weapon enjoyed some small amount of commercial success.

However, with the Great Depression looming and financial prospects of Winchester not being the best at the time, the Model 57 experienced slow sales; the weapon was also not exactly well liked as a target rifle as it was noted as being too light and having too short a barrel for it to be effective in its intended role. A total of 18,281 were produced over its nine-year production run, although the design heritage of this weapon survives in the Model 69 and 75.

My references indicate that serial number 28858 is a high one, they say that it was manufactured late in production, after 1937. My partner John indicates that Winchester marked the last two digits of the date of manufacture on the bottom of the barrel, just ahead of where they screw into the frame. John has a different estimation of the DOM, he says that his guess is probably 1931-33. Hope this helps, Marc

16610  - Frankenstein 1911A1
12/1/2022

Maker: Remington Rand, Model: 1911A!, Caliber: 45, Barrel Length: ?, Finish: ?, SN: 700447

Question:
I`m looking to find some information about my husband`s grandfather`s gun. I know that it was made by the Remington ram Incorporated Syracuse New York USA. On its side it says United States property and the serial number is very low number 700447. I am guessing from that number and everything that I found that it was manufactured in 1924. But I am not sure and would like some more information. I would also like to find out if this is somewhat of a valuable gun. Thank you in advance for your help with this.

Answer:
My references indicate that the frame of your pistol is a model 1911/A1, that was manufactured by Colt in 1924. Remington Rand production started in 1942 at serial number 916405. If the slide is marked ``Remington Rand``, it was manufactured by Remington Rand between 1942 and 1945 and you have what collectors call a parts, or Frankenstein gun. These are guns that are made up from parts of other firearms. Collector demand and value of Frankenstein guns is much lower than it is for firearms that are in original condition. I often see Frankenstein 1911/A1 pistols being offered for sale at gunshows in the $600 range as shooters. Marc
